Target
So...I met with newlyweds tonight that I played for this past March. They had a 'big' wedding downtown, and it was some party!! The reception went seven hours, and from the moment we opened the dancefloor all the way to the last dance, the guests never let up. Love those! Anyway, I met with them to give them their updated DVD Montage, and they told me all the great things about their wedding, all the funny things that happened that day, and then they told me the one thing that I should 'warn' other prospective wedding clients about.....Target's wedding registry. I realize this has nothing to do with DJ music, but in the interest of weddings, I thought it was worth blogging about. They registered with Target, and many guests purchased gifts for them via their registry. Now comes the problem. Apparently, Target is so slow about updating their website, they ended up with 8 sets of the same sheets, multiple sets of the same towels, and other duplicate gifts. So, in the weeks after their wedding, they loaded up the car, went to Target, and attempted to return their duplicated items. Target's policy is, no receipt-no return. No store credit, no nothing! Even after reasonably pleading their case, and pointing out that their website was the cause of this dilemma, Target wouldn't budge. So, they packed up their 800 threadcount sheets, and headed back home. Target just lost two regular customers. So, in their honor, consider yourselves warned.

Custom Recordings
I have been offering a suite of customized recordings for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Some couples will visit me to do voiceover work which I integrate into their slideshows. Some brides want to record a special message to their dad, which I integrate into their wedding processional music, and some couples want to record a message to one another which becomes mixed into their first dance. Whatever the choice may be, I am more than happy to accomodate.

DVD Video Montage
Hello again. For those interested, and maybe for those who are not, video montages are quite popular...and also quite memorable at receptions. I have been producing these shows for about 1.5 years now, and they become another 'event' during a couples' reception.
I gather about 150 photos of the bride and groom from birth to adult, pictures of their families and friends, and, of course, them as a couple. I then produce a video that tells the story of their lives, all the way up to wedding day! There is accompanying music, titling, effects and much more. Guests love it, the newlyweds love it, the families love it!
I guess you get the point. Visit my site, www.sjsdiscjockey.com for all the info.

What is a Gobo Light??

Well, I have been getting requests for Monogrammed Gogo Lighting for weddings, and now I can easily accomodate. What is a Gobo? Ever been somewhere and a company logo or someone's picture is being shown on a floor or a wall? The type of light is called a Gobo. So, upon request, I can customize newlwed monogram initials to shine all night long on either the dancefloor or on a large wall. It really looks great, and adds a character that other effects can't touch!

Wedding Ceremony Music
Most brides nowadays want to walk down the aisle to something other than the classic wedding march. For most, it seems too.....old fashioned. I am continually asked for newer, fresh ideas. A great place to start is to visit www.pianobrothers.com. You can listen to 30-second clips of many great choices, and can purchase their music if you are so inclined. There are limitless choices in the classical world, as well as vocal songs to walk down to. Same thing applies for your exit song. I prefer something upbeat and fun, from my experience, guests get a kick out of a fun, unexpected song!

Referrals Rock!
We live for referrals in this crazy business of ours. I have three events this weekend, a party for the Active 20/30 Club, a private graduation party, and a wedding. All three events are results of my referral base of clients, which I LOVE!! I always tell my clients that I don't advertise and that I rely on their word of mouth. Just thought I'd brag a bit!!

Busy, Busy Wedding Faire
We just got home from the wedding show today at Cal Expo, and we saw a crowd of at least 2000 brides! We spent the entire day speaking to countless newlyweds-to-be, the newest engaged couple just 2 days old! We hope to work with many of the couples that we chatted with today, and expect to deliver a whole bunch of DVD slideshow montages as well. Good night!
